– Binghamton opens its 23rdrd season of competition at the NCAA Division I level – and its second straight season with Bloomsburg as the primary opponent.
– The Bearcats return four starters from last season – including a graduate guard Denai Bowman, who was named to the America East Preseason All-Conference Team. The other starters back are redshirt sophomore guards Ela Wanzer again Jadyn Weltz so is the small front Genevieve Coleman
– The Bearcats are coming off a 13-17 season (6-10 AE) in 2022-23. They were picked to finish fourth in the America East Conference in the Preseason Coaches Poll.
– Bloomsburg, which runs at the Division II level, finished 9-17 last year. Since they are not Division I opponents, the game against Binghamton will count as their exhibition contest.
– Binghamton leads the all-time series against Bloomsburg 3-2 – including 2-0 since advancing to the NCAA Division I level. In last year’s opener, Binghamton beat Bloomsburg 63-46. Second present tense Camryn Fauria scored 12 points and Weltz had 10. It was the first group game for both of them.
– Bowman enters the 2023-24 season ranked 11th all-time with 1,214 career points. At 10th All-time leading scorer is Karen McClelland (1996-00) with 1,227 career points. Bowman also ranks seventh with 286 assists – four behind Kim Shaw (1997-01) who finished sixth with 290 assists.
