The Game Awards 2023 announces the Game of the Year nominees

Alan Wake 2, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Resident Evil 4, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of EmpireBaldur’s Gate 3, again Super Mario Bros. Wonder will receive the Game Awards’ top prize for Game of the Year, Geoff Keighley announced on Monday.

Both Baldur’s Gate 3 again Alan Wake 2 led the pack with eight nominations in all categories, followed Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and seven, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of Empire again Super Mario Bros. Wonder out of five, too Resident Evil 4 and three.

It’s a big year for Nintendo, with 15 titles in total. PlayStation follows with 13; Xbox with 10; Nine Epic Games; Capcom, Larian, and Square Enix all have eight; Electronic arts and six; and CD Projekt Red and Riot Games with four nominations. Notably absent from most fields, however, is Bethesda Softworks’ Starfieldwhich received just one nomination in the category of best actor.

The Game Awards will be broadcast live on December 7 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Alongside the awards, Keighley is expected to release a number of video game trailers. Although 2023 had a great run of video game releases, it was also a tough year for the industry and its employees; more than 6,000 people were laid off from the video game industry this year.
