Red Dead Redemption 2 beats GTA 5 on Steam, but Rockstar is done

Red Dead Redemption 2 Steam sales are booming right now, as Rockstar west is topping the charts on Valve’s store, surpassing Cyberpunk 2077 and even Grand Theft Auto 5. However, although the story of Arthur Morgan and John Marston is still popular, it seems that updates of RDR 2 is becoming increasingly unlikely, as Rockstar shifts all of its development efforts to GTA 6. Based on sales and player figures, there is still life in Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online, but it seems that all attention is on the Grand Theft Auto 6.

The release date of Grand Theft Auto 6 is definitely coming, someday, but Rockstar’s official announcement of the new sandbox game is still not available. The developer says it has moved on to GTA 6, and recently re-released the Halloween Pass 2 for Red Dead Redemption 2, marking the third year in a row that players have been offered the same downloadable content. It seems unlikely that RDR 2 will get a real, new update now, but nevertheless, the open-world shooter recently topped the Steam charts, surpassing GTA 5, Cyberpunk 2077, Elder Scrolls Online, and other big hits as players keep the Red Dead. Redemption 2 is alive.

On Steam’s US sales chart exclusively, Red Dead Redemption 2 jumped 75 places to number 16. GTA 5 currently sits at number 42, with Dead by Daylight at number 18, and the superb Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty at 21. global chart of Steam, Red Dead Redemption 2 performs even better. It is currently ninth in the world, ahead of Cyberpunk 2077 at number ten, the new city-building game Cities Skylines 2 at number 11, and GTA 5 at number 31.

Steam’s Red Dead Redemption 2 player base is still healthy. RDR 2 reached a peak of 70,914 players in the last nine months. In the last 24 hours, 57,300 people have played Red Dead Redemption 2 on Steam, which is close to their lifetime record. Grand Theft Auto 5 is still winning the battle for the player base, however, with over 151,000 Steam players on the last day.

A former Rockstar developer recently explained to PCGamesN their hopes for the GTA 6 map, and how it should resemble Grand Theft Auto 4’s Liberty City.
