USC head coach Lincoln Riley | Washington a week
If one is grateful for a good case, that is Lincoln Riley. He has put in some of the best performances in recent memory and is considered one of the best coaches in all of football. So when you turn the tape on Washingtonhe should have enjoyed watching them play.
Well, maybe not in his defense. But overall, as an offensive minded coach.
Riley talked about how well Washington is spending Michael Penix Jr. and has the ability to play directly to his strengths. Everyone is excited about the receivers in Seattle and Riley believes they do a good job getting them the ball.
“The quarterback has good command of what they’re doing with him,” Riley said. “You can say that he and the staff really agree. He is very decisive about football. He’s not much of a runner and does a good job of getting the ball out of his hands and playing to their strengths. Which is to get the ball to the talented players they have.”
Rome Odunze Washington’s main guy. He leads the team with 907 yards and seven touchdowns on 51 receptions. Ja’lynn Polk He’s not far behind him in terms of statistics, either Jalen McMillian has impressed since returning from injury.
Offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb impressed Riley with all the eye candy cases using presnap. It’s part of the reason Washington’s receivers are so open all the time, forcing defenses to make contact while there’s a lot going on.
“They did enough with the moves and the shifts and all that and changing the snaps systematically to try to challenge or stress the defense. They have good players and a good scheme. They did a really good job.”
Despite all the praise, there have been some struggles in Washington since the big win In Oregon. And when you’re a top five team in the country, going on the road can present a hostile environment.
However, that is not a secret USC he has really struggled on defense. Riley talked about the Trojan offense not putting them in favorable situations. But Washington will be dangerous to strike at any moment with the talent they have in Los Angeles.
It’s probably fun to watch the tapes in the week leading up to the game, but Riley knows he’s going to have to find a way to stop them a few times.
