The 21-year-old – who recorded more assists than any other Under-21 player in Europe’s top five leagues last season – has been unavailable for selection so far this season after picking up an injury on international duty earlier in the season.
However, speaking at a pre-match press conference, Hodgson confirmed that the midfielder will be available for the first time this season, further good news following Ebere Eze’s return against Burnley last week.
Hodgson said:Ebere Eze he played 30 minutes at Burnley and got through that pool, and he’s trained all week, so he’s available for selection.
“Michael Olise he had a modified training session last week, but he trained fully this week as well, so he is one of the ones I will have in the selection team. That would improve two big ones.
“(Cheick) Doucoure He hasn’t trained his week until today, but he came for today’s training, so he is available.
“Really, the players we don’t have at the moment Dean Henderson, with his long-term muscle injury; (James) Tomkins, who will return after the international break; and the unlucky ones Jes Rak-Sakyi.
“We are waiting for a scan in 10 days to see how the injuries he received have progressed… ‘progressing’ is a false word, but how the injuries have improved or not improved. Then, we will have a clear idea of how long we will accept living without him.”
