Baldur’s Gate 3 Tips to Succeed in a New Difficulty Mode That Might Be Totally Scary

Baldur’s Gate 3 players looking for a punishing difficulty level may be in for a treat, as a new undiscovered achievement points to something even more difficult than Tactician.

As spotted by Redditor Scornz on the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit, some fans have seen an achievement not yet available on the GOG PC storefront. The achievement, titled “Foehammer,” requires a Baldur’s Gate 3 player to complete the game in Honor Mode.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has three difficulty levels: Explorer, Balance, and Tactician, with Tactician as its hardest mode. While Larian has yet to announce a new difficulty mode (IGN has reached out for comment), it should be noted that he previously added Honor Mode to Divinity: Original Sin 2.

If it’s anything like the one in that game, Baldur’s Gate 3’s Honor Mode will be an enhanced version of Tactician with a few twists: the player can only access one save file. There is also a permadeath feature where your save file is deleted if your party dies.

Basically, even Withers won’t keep you here.

Honor Mode is one of the most requested features for Baldur’s Gate 3 players, as some were surprised and confused when it was missing after it came out of Early Access in August. However PC gamers looking for a serious challenge have been able to fill that void unofficially with the Tactician Plus mod.

The lack of Honor Mode aside, Baldur’s Gate 3 has been a huge success for Larian Studios, with CEO Swen Vincke saying in August that the game far exceeded the studio’s expectations.

In our review of Baldur’s Gate 3, which received a score of 10 out of 10, we said: “(w)ith a complex, intelligent RPG combat, a memorable story with complex characters, a highly polished cinematic presentation, and a world that is always rewarding to explore. and create, the Gate Baldur’s 3 is a new high-water mark in CRPGs.”
